Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

About James

Location: St. Paul, Tele-health and/or In Person
Pronouns: He/Him

Since 2020 I have worked across the lifespan with emphasis on resolving critical cases to include neuro-divergence, substance use, previously unresolved psychoses, mood disorders, and suicidal ideations. My guiding principles of practice have been that patient autonomy is sacrosanct, and prescribers owe their patients fidelity. Every psychiatric evaluation is a tension free therapeutic probe to uncover anything including previously missed signs and symptoms. After a diagnosis, I fully educate my patients about the disease process and the latest FDA approved evidence-based treatments. I make sure they leave my office happy because I set no unrealistic treatment expectations, only that my treatment would be second to none.

When I am not working, I am spending time with family or seeking current events via news and social media. I am also an avid reader, mostly of materials that are relevant to my practice. I believe that increasing the knowledge base of the patient is most important to ensure treatment compliance. Most important to add is that my Christian faith guides my ability to empathize and see every patient as an opportunity to heal. I am very passionate about patient care.

My deep care for patients was shaped by my professional career, which began in journalism. The human stories covered reinforced my empathy and an understanding of human dignity. Bed-side nursing brought me closer to human suffering, and the opportunity to focus on my active listening skills. Obtaining a doctoral degree ensured I became a healthcare leader. Below is a list of my educational background:

  • Doctorate degree in Nursing practice (honors), University of Arizona
  • Master’s degree in communications (honors), East Tennessee State University
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (honors), East Tennessee State University
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, University of Ghana
  • Two semesters (two years) FNP Certificate Program, George Town University
