Richard Chamberlin

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Richard is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He graduated with a Journalism degree from the University of Minnesota. After serving two years in the Peace Corps in El Salvador he spent many years as a writer and editor in various businesses including two that he founded. He earned his MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. He has over 18 years of experience as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with a variety of populations. He has done in-home therapy; group therapy; couples and family therapy; and worked in a partial hospitalization program (PHP).

He strives for unconditional positive regard with his clients and brings a calming presence to the room. His use of many principles of Psychosynthesis help clients to discover their sub-personalities and better understand themselves and their place in the world. Some of these sub-personalities include the Inner Child; the Power Animal; the Saboteur; the Judge; and the Addict. By better awareness of their voices clients can learn to manage their emotions and difficult situations.

Working with couples Richard uses reflective listening and role reversal as a way of helping them to better understand each other and also to maximize their communication.
